- Study about the mechanism of Ca2+ and Mg2+ bonding with aerobic granules.
- Ca2+ enhanced settleability while Mg2+ improved dewaterability of granular sludges.
- Fate of particular EPS produced depends upon its structure and size of the metal.
- Larger size Ca2+ made bonding with less crowded hydroxyl groups of polysaccharides.
- Mg2+ due to smaller size had strong interactions with amide groups of proteins.
