Electroless deposition of ultrathin Au film for surface enhanced in situ spectroelectrochemisrty and reaction-driven surface reconstruction for oxygen reduction reaction

► Formation mechanism of electroless deposition of Au ultrathin film was studied. ► Sulfur-containing species on the freshly deposited Au film was identified by SERS. ► Activity enhancement in ORR by reaction-driven surface reconstruction was observed.
