► Pd nanoparticle catalysts supported on graphene and graphite oxide. ► Pd-graphene catalyst highly active for carbon-carbon cross-coupling reactions. ► Pd-graphene has a remarkable turnover frequency (108,000 h−1) for Suzuki coupling. ► Pd-graphene catalyst is recycled for eight times with a quantitative reaction yield. ► Catalytic activity correlates with Pd dispersion and concentration of Pd(0).
