Conversion of yeast by hydrothermal treatment under reducing conditions

► Baker's yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) is used for the production of biocrude oil under hydrothermal conditions. ► A very high heating rate of the feed is achieved by mixing it with an overheated stream of water and hydrogen. ► The influence of the addition of H2 to the reaction mixture on the biocrude oil quality is studied. ► The oil produced at 400 °C had a water concentration of 3 wt.% only and contained less than 0.1 wt.% ash.
