► Contralateral cerebellar activation is observed within the sensorimotor network. ► The insula-cerebellar crus I/II connection is engaged in body awareness. ► Active movements reveal increased brain activation in CP compared to TD children. ► Active movements recruit more brain activation than passive movements. ► Active movements exhibit more brain activation than tactile stimulation.
