In vivo human cardiac fibre architecture estimation using shape-based diffusion tensor processing

► Feasibility of in vivo human cardiac DTI acquisition is demonstrated on five healthy volunteers. ► A workflow for the comprehensive analysis of DTI data in the left ventricle using prolate spheroidal coordinates is proposed. ► A scheme for the dense approximation of tensor field from sparsely acquired DTI data is demonstrated and applied in vivo. ► Results showed a fibre structure in good agreement with ex vivo studies.
