Capillary flooding of wood with microemulsions from Winsor I systems

► We used a new method based on microemulsions to flood capillaries in wood. ► Microemulsions were formulated with anionic and anionic/nonionic surfactants. ► Pseudo-ternary diagrams were constructed to select formulation variables. ► The microemulsions were highly effective to penetrate the solid substrate. ► Solubilization of cell wall components is observed after impregnation.
