Enhanced efficacy and anti-biofilm activity of novel nanoemulsions against skin burn wound multi-drug resistant MRSA infections

In our previously report, the chlorhexidine acetate nanoemulsion (CNE) designed by ourselves could improve the solubility of this compound and enhance its therapeutic efficacy against cariogenic S. mutans in vivo and in vitro. In this study, we find that CNE also has a better and faster action against the MRSA in vitro and burn wound skin infection model in vivo, compared with its water solution (CHX). And also, it has a better effect on inhibiting biofilm formation and clearing biofilm than CHX. And the relative electric conductivity, the leakage of AKP, K+, Mg2 +, DNA and protein increased obviously because the cell wall and membrane treated with CNE were severely disrupted. Therefore, we trust that CNE has good antibacterial and anti-biofilm activity against skin burn wound infection of MRSA.265
