Intracellular cargo delivery by virus capsid protein-based vehicles: From nano to micro

The SV40 VP1 protein could form three structures for carrying different sizes of cargos into live cells. A pentameric structure of VP1 delivers proteins. Viral capsids fusing with eGFP encapsulate quantum dot were assembled for studying cargo release. Micron-sized iron oxide particles were also delivered into live cells by SV40 virus-like particles. It suggested that the SV40 VP1 has potential cell transport ability for cargos: from nano to micro.52
