Aspect ratios of gold nanoshell capsules mediated melanoma ablation by synergistic photothermal therapy and chemotherapy

Controllable near infrared plasmonic gold nanoshell capsules (GNSCs) with a series of aspect ratios are synthesized and used with the advantages of both photothermal therapy and chemotherapy for melanoma ablation. The GNSCs with moderate aspect ratio are efficiently taken up by melanoma cells and can penetrate into tumor tissues, resulting in highly effective ablation of highly malignant melanomas when used along with mild laser irradiation and a single treatment.459
