Cellulose solid supports displaying dendrimeric nanoconjugates are useful for quantifying specific IgE antibodies to β-lactam antibiotics. In this work, different surface methodologies, including the activation based on cyanogen bromide, chloroacetyl chloride, and α-bromoisobutyryl bromide, are compared. The use of the haloalkanoyl halides yielded surfaces with higher density of conjugates compared to the conventional cyanogen bromide. These new materials increased the molecular recognition of specific IgE antibodies and therefore involve the improvement of the sensitivity of in vitro detection tests for allergy to penicillin.221
