Functional imaging of the thalamus in language

► 50 studies demonstrating thalamic activation during language tasks were reviewed. ► Thalamic activation was seen in tasks requiring lexical information manipulation. ► Left greater than right thalamic activation was seen during these tasks. ► Thalamic activation was seen along with activation of frontal and temporal cortex. ► Implications of these findings are discussed.
