Migraine- and dystonia-related disease-mutations of Na+/K+-ATPases: Relevance of behavioral studies in mice to disease symptoms and neurological manifestations in humans

► Mutated Na+/K+-ATPase α-isoforms give rise to neurological diseases, FHM2 and RDP. ► FHM2: Familial Hemiplegic Migraine type 2; RDP: Rapid-onset of Dystonia Parkinsonism. ► Sodium-potassium pump function is impaired in FHM2 and RDP patients. ► Mouse models for FHM2 and RDP do mimic certain traits of the human diseases. ► Mouse models are useful for dissecting the pathogenesis of FHM2 and RDP.
