Detecting the onset of accelerated long-term forgetting: Evidence from temporal lobe epilepsy

► We examined accelerated long-term forgetting (ALF) in a temporal lobe epileptic. ► A customised word-pair paradigm was developed. ► Onset of ALF was shown to occur between 30 and 55 min. ► Disruption of consolidation during sleep was not necessary for ALF to occur. ► Repeated recall during the first 4 h aided consolidation and counteracted ALF.
