Anxiety disrupts the evaluative component of performance monitoring: An ERP study

► ERPs allow to clarify effects of trait anxiety on performance monitoring brain processes. ► Trait anxiety alters the FRN component during evaluative feedback processing. ► This effect likely originates from an impaired generative action evaluation process in anxiety. ► Trait anxiety does not influence earlier emotional perceptual stages (N170). ► The FRN component is related to internalizing attribution style.
