Trade union membership and dismissals

► In West Germany, trade union membership reduces the individual dismissal probability. ► This study is the first to document such a private gain from individual membership. ► The dismissal probability falls most strongly for females and blue collar workers. ► In the case of plant closures, individual membership has no effect.
