Diffusion zone formation in aluminized MAR-247 from Bi-velocity Phase Field Method

► BPFM allows quantitative description of diffusion mass transport in multi-phase materials. ► It deals with composition dependent diffusivities in a two-phase region. ► The method determines average stress field during the diffusion process and allows estimating entropy production. ► The results can serve as a basis in designing gradient coatings of extended lifetime. ► The maximum of the entropy production is close to the interphase boundary with the B2 single-phase zone.
