Building and analyzing the US airport network based on en-route location information

► We build the US airport network (USAN) from flight en-route location information. ► We find that the USAN exhibits scale-free, small-world and disassortative mixing properties. ► We report a power relationship between structural measurements and traffic ones. ► We investigate the airport patterns and present a complete typological map. ► Airport traffic is related to geographical constraints and socioeconomic factors.
