Long-term correlations in hourly wind speed records in Pernambuco, Brazil

► We study the statistical properties of hourly wind speed time series in Brazil. ► We find that the wind speed data are well explained by a Weibull distribution. ► Estimated parameter values differ among stations, and appear to be erratic. ► On the other hand, the long-term correlations of all datasets obey the same power law.
