How people make friends in social networking sites-A microscopic perspective

► We study a social networking site from microscopic perspectives. ► The distribution of reciprocation intervals decays in an exponential form. ► The distributions of intervals of user behaviors follow a power law. ► Linear preference holds for the preferential selection and linking. ► A network model is proposed which can reproduce the degree distribution of the network.
