An overlapping detection algorithm for random sequential packing of elliptical particles

► We develop an accurate and efficient numerical algorithm to detect overlapping of ellipses. ► The algorithm can be extended to three-dimensional case. ► Increasing aspect ratio and equivalent diameter will ascend thickness of interfacial transition zone. ► The distance corresponding to the peak value is the same with increasing aspect ratio. ► The peak value of the solid volume fraction is a constant with increasing equivalent diameter.
