Corporate kin-groups, social memory, and “history houses”? A quantitative test of recent reconstructions of social organization and building function at Çatalhöyük during the PPNB

► We tested the claim that corporate kin-groups were common at Çatalhöyük in the PPNB. ► Corporate kin-groups were maintained by “history houses” according to the hypothesis. ► The hypothesis predicts that house-wall continuity and burials should co-vary. ► Factor analysis indicated that the two variables do not co-vary. ► Claims regarding corporate kin-groups at PPNB Çatalhöyük should be curtailed.
