Automated on-line solid-phase extraction coupled to liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry for determination of lipophilic marine toxins in shellfish

► On-line SPE was applied to the determination of all main lipophilic marine toxins. ► High sample throughput was achieved by coupling on-line SPE and LC-ESI-MS/MS. ► On-line desalting of hydrolysed shellfish extracts avoided ESI signal suppression. ► No matrix effects were observed for mussel extracts after on-line SPE. ► Lipophilic toxins were found in mussels from North West coast of Spain.
