Hypotriglyceridemic and hypoglycemic effects of vescalagin from Pink wax apple [Syzygium samarangense (Blume) Merrill and Perry cv. Pink] in high-fructose diet-induced diabetic rats

► Wistar rats were fed a high-fructose diet (HFD) and orally administered vescalagin. ► The effects of vescalagin on hypotriglyceridemia and hypoglycemia were evaluated. ► Fasting blood glucose, triglyceride decreased in HFD rats administered vescalagin. ► High-density-lipoprotein-cholesterol increased in HFD rats treated with vescalagin. ► Vescalagin has therapeutic value against diabetic progression.
