Quantitative analysis of triterpenoids in different parts of Ilex hainanensis, Ilex stewardii and Ilex pubescens using HPLC-ELSD and HPLC-MSn and antibacterial activity

► Determine four triterpenoids in different parts of Ilex species by HPLC-ELSD. ► Ilexgenin A was effective constituent against oral pathogens. ► Dose-effect relationship showed antibacterial activity of Ilex species mainly depended on content of ilexgenin A.
