► Enzymatic synthesis of phytosteryl docosahexaneates was successful. ► Structures of phytosteryl docosahexaneates were confirmed by IR and HPLC-MS. ► The phytosteryl docosahexaneates had anti-atherogenic effects in apo-E deficient mice. ► Phytosteryl docosahexaneates may be used as functional foods ingredient/nutraceuticals.
