New coumarins and anti-inflammatory constituents from Zanthoxylum avicennae

► Five new compounds (1-5) were isolated from Zanthoxylum avicennae. ► 6, 9-15, and 18 inhibited fMLP-induced O2− generation (IC50 ⩽ 8.29 μg/ml). ► 6, 10, 12, 14, and 18 inhibited fMLP-induced elastase release (IC50 ⩽ 6.30 μg/ml). ► 10 and 14 are potential candidates for treatment of inflammatory diseases.
