► The first successful entrapment of CWI within gelatin hydrogel has been reported. ► The immobilisation was complete without loss or leakage of enzyme. ► Obtained biocatalyst is cheap and available in large amount. ► Very stable biocatalyst even at high temperatures and with long shelf-life. ► Obtained biocatalyst can be easily separated from the reaction mixture.
