Dose dependent effects of lycopene enriched tomato-wine on liver and adipose tissue in high-fat diet fed rats

► We examine the anti-obesity and anti-atherogenic effects of natural tomato-wine. ► Tomato-wine enriched with lycopene suppresses body weight gain in obese rats. ► Tomato-wine inhibits fatty acid synthesis and lipid droplet formation. ► Tomato-wine elevates plasma HDL-cholesterol. ► Tomato-wine enriched with lycopene may help prevent obesity and atherosclerosis.
