Rapid isolation of geraniin from Nephelium lappaceum rind waste and its anti-hyperglycemic activity

► N. lappaceum rind, also known as rambutan, has been shown to have anti-hyperglycemic abilities. ► Geraniin, an ellagitannin was identified as the major bioactive in N. lappaceum rind. ► Rapid isolation and purification of geraniin from the rind of N. lappaceum was established. ► Geraniin exhibited alpha glucosidase, alpha amylase and aldol reductase inhibition activity. ► It also prevented the formation of advanced glycation end-products (AGE).
