Pinolenic acid inhibits human breast cancer MDA-MB-231 cell metastasis in vitro

► Pinolenic acid (PNA) is a PUFA with anti-inflammatory properties. ► We determined the anti-carcinogenic effects of PNA on human breast cancer cells. ► PNA could be taken up and incorporated into cell membranes. ► PNA changed n−6 PUFA metabolism, and affected PGE2 production and COX-2 expression. ► PNA had no effect on cell proliferation or adhesion, but did suppress migration.
