Design and synthesis of γ-butyrolactone derivatives as potential spermicidal agents

A series of novel γ-butyrolactone derivatives were synthesized and investigated for their spermicidal activity. Derivative 4c (0.05%) exhibited good spermicidal activity and significantly reduces the number of free thiols on human sperm.
