Dual action spirobicycloimidazolidine-2,4-diones: Antidiabetic agents and inhibitors of aldose reductase-an enzyme involved in diabetic complications

Compound 2a was found to possess an excellent glucose lowering activity, more potent than glibenclamide-a well known antidiabetic sulphonylurea drug. In addition, the compound is a very good inhibitor of ALR1 and ALR2.
