The cytotoxic agent 2 displays potent antimalarial properties towards drug-sensitive as well as drug-resistant strains of Plasmodium falciparum. It concentrates in erythrocytes where it lowers the concentration of glutathione and displays adequate permeability characteristics across the CACO-2 monolayer.
