Bonding strength of glass-ceramic trabecular-like coatings to ceramic substrates for prosthetic applications

► Glass-ceramic scaffolds are proposed as trabecular coatings on prosthetic devices. ► Trabecular coatings are fabricated and characterized on flat geometry. ► The system is modeled by a novel approach based on quantized fracture mechanics. ► The model allows to estimate the bonding strength of trabecular coatings. ► The model is helpful to properly design the bonding strength of biomaterials.
