Antibacterial effects of silver-doped hydroxyapatite thin films sputter deposited on titanium

► We have developed a combination of plasma-based ion implantation and ion beam sputter deposition technique. ► Silver-doped hydroxyapatite thin films on titanium were developed. ► The thin films showed the ability to control the concentration of silver that is doped within the hydroxyapatite film. ► The thin films maintained a uniform and evenly distributed silver across the entire surface. ► The thin films were able to control bacterial growth on the surface.
