Depth-dependent normal strain of articular cartilage under sliding load by the optimized digital image correlation technique

► Cartilage's depth-dependent properties were investigated under sliding load. ► The friction force increases firstly and then decreases slowly with sliding. ► The normal strain values decrease slightly with increasing sliding rates. ► The relationship of normal strain and normalized depth was obtained.
