Corrosion evaluation of wear tested nitinol wire

Measurement of current-potential relations under carefully controlled conditions was performed to yield information on corrosion rates, passivation abilities and pitting tendencies of Nitinol wire samples. Cyclic potentiodynamic curves were obtained to evaluate the corrosion resistance of several wire specimens after completing accelerated wear testing to 200 million cycles, which is equivalent to approximately 5 years. The effects of the wear testing on corrosion were evaluated and the specimens were microscopically analyzed.
