Comparative corrosion study of binary oxide and nitride overcoats using in-situ fluid-cell AFM

►Fluid-cell AFM provides in-situ corrosion monitoring with nanometer resolution. ►Two binary overcoat systems were used to validate technique. ►Physical corrosion mechanism in both systems was quite distinct. ►Results confirmed using SEM and EDX. ►Technique proved powerful in revealing otherwise hidden behavior.
