Imaging sclera with hard X-ray microscopy

► In this study, the organization of collagen fibrils within the sclera was investigated using the hard X-ray microscope of the Pohang light source. ► The X-ray microscope resolved individual collagen fibrils at a spatial resolution better than 100 nm. ► In some regions, cross-bridge like structures between adjacent collagen fibrils were observed. ► The X-ray microscope has some advantages in the imaging of bio-samples relative to other established imaging techniques.
