Ceria/stannate multilayer coatings on AZ91D Mg alloy

► We prepared stannate-ceria multilayer coatings on AZ91 Mg alloy. ► Ceria was obtained by sol-gel at a lower temperature than given in literature. ► The coated samples showed a very high corrosion resistance. ► Full characterization has been performed. ► The effect of PVA addition on precursor sol was evaluated.
