Effect of increased water vapor levels on TBC lifetime with Pt-containing bond coatings

► Furnace cycling of thermal barrier coatings conducted in air with H2O at 1150 °C. ► Lifetime with Pt diffusion bond coatings was not affected by 10% or 90 vol.% H2O. ► Lifetime with Pt-modified aluminide bond coatings was reduced > 50% in 10% H2O. ► Rate of aluminide bond coat roughening was much higher compared to rate in dry O2.
