Deposition of thick and 50% porous YpSZ layer by spraying nitrate solution in a low pressure plasma reactor

► A new plasma process was investigated to deposit thermal barrier coatings. ► The coatings were deposited using an aqueous solution of nitrates. ► Yttria partially stabilized zirconia coatings were 50% porous. ► Nano porosities were observed in the coatings. ► YpSZ layers exhibited a very low thermal diffusivity due to their morphology.
