Microstructural evolution of intermetallic layer in hot-dipped aluminide mild steel with silicon addition

► Mechanism of microstructural evolution with Si addition has been characterized. ► Si addition in Al bath caused the formation of Fe-Al-Si phases. ► Si addition in Al bath increased the metal loss of steel substrate. ► Intermetallic layer decrease is dominated mainly by detachment of Al7Fe2Si layer.
