Magnetic layer formation on plasma nitrided CoCrMo alloy

► Plasma nitriding of CoCrMo alloy near 400 °C leads to expanded austenite phase. ► The expanded austenite phase is found to be ferromagnetically ordered. ► The ferromagnetic ordering is mainly attributed to large lattice expansions.
