Shear wave propagation in periodic phononic/photonic piezoelectric medium

► Oblique SH waves in one dimensional periodic piezoelectric crystal are considered. ► Band gaps for Bloch-Floquet waves are defined at acoustic and optical frequencies. ► Strong piezoelectric coupling has a significant effect on the widths of band gaps. ► Band gaps open in identical piezoelectric crystals with opposite polarization. ► Piezoelectricity practically does not affect band structure at optical frequencies.
