► Hemorphins are immunoprecipitated from culture supernatant of human erythrocytes. ► Bortezomib inhibits the chymotrypsin-like activity of proteasome within erythrocyte. ► Intraerythrocytic proteasomal inhibition leads to a decline in hemorphin production.
