Completion of cell division is associated with maximum telomerase activity in naturally synchronized cultures of the green alga Desmodesmus quadricauda

► We optimized protocols for quantitative telomerase activity assay in green alga. ► We analysed telomerase activity during the cell cycle of Desmodesmus quadricauda. ► Algal telomerase was highly active in all phases of the cell cycle. ► Highest telomerase activity was connected to completion of cellular division.
