Biochemical and molecular characterization of the venom from the Cuban scorpion Rhopalurus junceus

► Venom components and genes from the scorpion Rhopalurus junceus were identified. ► The venom contains peptides that affect Sodium and Potassium ion channels. ► Peptides with insecticidal activity were also found. ► Phylogenetic analysis of gene sequences shows similarities with other scorpion venoms.
