► Microbial expression systems used to produce recombinant conotoxin TxVIA. ► Expression in yeast Pichia pastoris required construct incorporating pro-peptide. ► Biologically active protein produced, with partial cleavage of pro-peptide. ► Resulting protein shows toxicity to insects, but not towards slugs, on injection.
